Created a prototype of profile creation for mobile solution

During my education at changemaker, I together with three UX students had the opportunity to collaborate on a project for Arbetsförmedlingen's initiative, Jobtech. Jobtech aims to establish a sustainable and shared infrastructure for digital matching services in Sweden.

Our project was to research and prototype how to motivate users to share their private data between digital services to complete a profile for job searching on arbetsförmedligen. This project spanned around 1 month from user research to concept testing.

Problem statement

The target group we got from Job Tech was job-seeking adults in the Swedish labour market.

“How can we motivate users to share their private data between digital services?”

This was the problem statement given to us by the client

Understanding how people feel about job-seeking

The first step was to get a grip on why users don’t complete their profiles.

Through interviews with the target group.

Interviews revealed most find job-seeking very stressful due to unclear job descriptions, slow employer responses, and stress tied to the arbetsförmedlingen process described as confusing, demotivating, and excessively time-consuming."

Narrowing down and defining

Using gathered insights, we crafted an empathy map of users' job search experience at arbetsförmedligen. It outlines what users perceive, hear, feel, and do, while also capturing their pains and gains on job searching platforms."

Concept A vs B

Through a round of Lightning decision Jam and storyboarding, we had two sketches of solutions ready.

After conducting A/B tests, the group decided to go with Concept A. The all-over process worked better in Concept A. To create the best solution, we decided to use the two concepts together based on wanted features.

Concept A

Make users see worth in completing their profile by giving them clear steps to follow.

Concept B

Motivate users by gamified feedback and give users control over their private information.

Design “Concept C”

The solution gives users clear steps to follow with immediate feedback at every step. It is an automatic process; when creating a profile, users collect their private data, eliminating filling out employment history and other personal data by hand.

By performing user tests on Concept C, we found that users appreciated the automatic process. They found the process easy, smooth and obvious. Suggestions for improvement like too-small buttons, no exit button, more clear typewriting were all applied to the final prototype.

Key takeaways

I am proud of the work me and my team did for this project! At first, the task was quite overwhelming, but we managed to get a solid focus that led to a reliable solution. Through the process, I gained a lot of valuable lessons both about our way of working and the solution.

😕

🍭

Some users felt insecure about sharing their private data when not knowing the purpose of sharing data. However, the majority did not have a problem sharing it knowing the meaning.

Users crave feedback in every step. Confirmation of their actions comforts the users in the process.

A sprint is not always the answer. Since we have had a lot of short projects, the google sprint has been handy. But we now had a longer time than usual. I realized that the sprint is convenient for quick projects but is not the best tool in every project.
